It Can’t Get Worse Than This

by Lata V. Raghavan on March 5, 2010

My father was a senior officer in the Indian Army. He was always known to be very strong, energetic and full of child-like enthusiasm. After his retirement, when I and my sister made our houses, he was the strength behind their smooth execution. My mother was a perfect foil for him. He would walk not less than 5 km every morning. Since last 3 years or so, he has been afflicted with Parkinson’s disease and has had to depend heavily on drugs without which he is utterly helpless. My mother is a diabetic. They stay with my sister and I go and lend them physical and moral support whenever I can. It pains me to no end to see their present state and I pray that they remain happy as long as they live.
