Piece #2 of 100
These look like earrings that I might have bought myself in the seventies. Very hippie, craftie, homemade looking. They are three inches in length, and although I’m pretty certain they are not silver, I don’t know what they are made of. Maybe nickel?
These hippie-style earrings show of another side of Mom, besides her glitz and glamour side. She liked buying directly from artists. Maybe these came from a street fair, maybe from a boutique. They definitely don’t look anything like the jewelry I see in the costume jewelry books, which seem to specialize in collecting vintage rhinestone pieces. Anyway, even though is it without a single rhinestone or crystal, I decided to include them because I liked them and thought they would round out the collection. Here she is wearing them on her birthday in 1988.

Hello – wonderful blog! It is still possible that these are silver earrings, or possibly pewter.

Afraid I can’t add anything about where these earrings might have come from – they have an ethnic look to them, to me.
I do think this is a wonderful way of exploring your mother’s history and her relationship with the world around her. I believe you will get to know her better – even though she is less able to communicate. Looking at the images of her, I get the feeling that she would love what you’re doing.
