Navy Florentine Brooch

Piece #8 of 100:

Over the last year, friends and family have inquired about Mom’s health (she’s fine, considering) and what’s new with me? Well, I answer, I’m going to blog about Mom’s jewelry. You mean you are going to sell it? No, I’m not going to sell it, I’m going to write about it. Blank stares. No one understands me. (Sorry, that was a vast over-generalization. Several of you do understand me. And you know who you are!!)

It never occurred to me to SELL it. If I sold the jewelry, then I wouldn’t have it anymore!! But the topic of price is an interesting one, and on this piece I found a recent sales price. This is so cool. Listen up.

This gorgeous piece of work is signed Barrera by Avon, which means it designed by Jose Maria Barrera for Avon around 1994. It is a gold-tone brooch with blue cabochons, pave crystals, bezeled rhinestones, faux pearls and a ruby red cabochon. It originally sold for $34.99 but there was a recent sale for $66.

And the very best part, is the seller (Becca’s Best Jewelry at Ruby Lane) has an picture of an original magazine advertising showing the piece as part of the Elizabeth Taylor Fashion Jewelry Collection. How fun is that?

I just found the matching earrings to this brooch in (guess where?) my mother’s jewelry box! W00t! W00t! And according to Worthpoint, the set of brooch and earrings sold for $91 in 2007 on eBay. Pictures coming soon.
