Black Enamel and Pave Rhinestones

Piece #10 of 100

I like the weight of this bracelet. It’s quite hunky. The bracelet is not signed. My brother thinks it’s a knock off of a famous designer. Anyone know if this pave X design is from a famous designer? Please let me know. I think it might be keeping my brother up at night. Ha ha!

Over the years, Mom stopped wearing bracelets because she didn’t want to bring attention to her hands, which she thought were ugly because of some disfiguration caused by rheumatoid arthritis. She was quite sensitive about it, but I never thought it was all that obvious.

One of Mom’s favorite, favorite questions of me was “How old do you think I look?” Hiding her age was very important to her. And she was very proud of how young she looked. While she was in late seventies (she’s eighty now), she wouldn’t be happy unless I said sixty. Which would have made it pretty darn difficult for her to actually be my Mom.

And then there was that summer trip the two of us took to England when I was nineteen, and she asked me to call her by her first name, since she wanted to pretend she wasn’t old enough to be my mother! Somethings never change. She still asks me how old I think she looks. To which I reply, “What would you like me to say?” And she lets me know the correct answer.
