The Emerald that Lasted Generations!

Hello, my name is Kimberly and I would like to share my story about a piece of jewelry that has been in my family since the late 1800s. It belonged to my great great great grandmother, and has been passed down ever since. My grandmother knows a lot about the ring, and says that it was a gift that was given to my great great great grandmother, Gladys, by her first husband, James. He died two years after they were married of tuberculosis, and my great great great grandmother then put the ring away and vowed never to wear it again, as it reminded her too much of him. Although, she kept the ring and never got rid of it, even after marrying her second husband (my real great great great grandfather, Ernest). It is an absolutely gorgeous piece, but does need a little work. It is missing a few diamonds, and the emerald itself is starting to get loose in the setting, but my mother currently has it (my grandmother gave it to her last Christmas), and she says she doesn’t want to do any repairs because it will take away from the authenticity and antique look of the ring. I have to say, I do somewhat agree with her and understand her viewpoint, but I still think the ring might look better and have much more precise clarity if these minor issues were fixed. From what I understand, it was considered a somewhat common piece back in those days, but now is extremely hard to find in terms of that exact design. I hope to one day be able to give it to my own little girl, and be able to tell her the same story about it to ensure that it continues to be passed down from generation to generation!
