I am currently in my early 30s while my father is in his late 50s. He has suffered two mild strokes and has been diagnosed with diabetes around a year ago. My father had been the breadwinner for us three kids when my mother left us. He had been working too hard and this could have caused his stroke. I took care of my father for the past 8 years. I am a physical therapist and my skills came in handy when I had to perform passive range of motion to the muscles of my dad when he got paralyzed. I was still in my third year of college then, so when I got home, I’d immediately check his blood pressure and check if he has taken his medications. After which, we have an hour physical therapy session which composed of exercises. At first, he was very compliant but later on he would be a bit lazy and frustrated. This really tested my patience as I was really tired. Thankfully, through our efforts, he was able to walk normally after 4 months. I am really glad to be able to pay back to my father who had been very selfless through his life.
