As a child, my grandmother had this gorgeous sapphire ring. It was a stunning piece really, something antique you could not find anywhere. In fact, it was given to her by my grandfather’s mother in the 1930’s. Anyways, when we were at my grandparent’s house, I used to play around wearing all of my grandmother’s jewelry and I especially looked forward to putting on that special ring. I even remember having a pair of long white gloves from a costume and I would slide the sapphire onto my middle finger over the glove (very Marilyn Monroe!).
My grandparent’s passed and I guess as I grew older, I forgot about my precious sapphire ring. On my wedding day, my mother came into my room as I was getting ready. She handed me the box where my grandmother kept the sapphire ring. Immediately, I felt a flashback of smells, emotions, nostalgia and of course my eyes swelled with tears. My mother said, “You can’t go out there without something blue. Now it’s yours.” I wore long gloves that day, and this time the ring fit perfectly on my ring finger.
